    :hi:

Does anyone else have one of these great systems, or maybe you've wondered if they actually worked...

It's basically a hydroponic system where the plant roots are growing in an oxygenated basin filled with water and nutrients. The plants grow up and out of these pods...

The water goes in here and there's even a water level indicator...

The seeds germinate in the little brown sponges which then fit into the plastic clear baskets, to be placed into one of the pods so the sponge is mostly submerged in the water. The paper circle is a label for you to write on...

Then you cover the pods with these plastic little domes until germination occurs...

You can grow your own seeds or buy kits as well...

The water basin is re-filled every two weeks with fresh water and nutrients that are added to the water...

Most plants are started by seeds but you can also root cuttings in your aero-garden or add potted plants to the system as well, but you just have to clean the roots well and remove any soil so it doesn't get into the water basin of your aero-garden.

The plants grow using fluorescent lighting bulbs that are replaced every 6 months...

If anyone has any questions, please feel free to ask. I've had great success with my aero-gardens and I have four units in total.

Here are some of my A-G growings:

    "Little Blue" hot pepper...

You can even grow tomatoes in an aero-garden...

I think this post is huge for now so I better release it before I lose it. :O

    More soon...

Wow, what a great idea, HBL, especially for those who live with long, cold winters & would be a wonderful source of fresh herbs & salad greens. :cool3: It does look so easy to use them which is a good thing. :lol3: Do the plants grow quickly??

Have not seen these before, either in stores or on TV, but have just Googled them & they are sold here in Australia. Mostly through the internet, it would seem. Now if only Bruiser ate greens.

Many thanks for posting about this subject & for the great pics. Think I shall place this in it own forum. :bravo:

You're very welcome Joy, and thank you too for giving this it's own forum. I'll be posting on-going shots of my growings. Here's some more of my A-G stuff:

You set the settings, according to what you're growing...

Here are other shots of the "Little Blue" hot pepper plant...

Here's my "Filius Blue" hot pepper plant that I am currently growing...

    Alpine strawberry sprouts...

My mature Alpine had been feeding me berries for months now but I just recently had to cut it back, so it could put on some new growth...

Here's my variegated "Jigsaw" hot pepper leaves...

    "Bright Lights" swiss chard...

    Double Petunia flower pods...

Here are two of my double petunia seedlings tonight...

    Geranium...

    Lots more soon...

Many thanks for your wonderful pics, HBL. :photos: The plants all look so healthy so I guess they have the nutrient mix just right. These gardens would be a great idea, also, for those who live in high rise apartments or have small-space gardens.

The blue hot peppers look rather interesting & very decorative. Are they as hot as the red ones??? I am afraid I am real chicken when it comes to hot stuff. :lol2: The strawberries look so scrumptious & it must be wonderful to be able to pick them whenever you want, without any worries about birds or bugs thieving them. The geraniums & double petunias, which I love, look good, as does the Swiss chard which is similar to our silverbeet.

Thanks again, for starting this very interesting topic. :bravo:

You're very welcome, Joy. :) I'm glad you are enjoying this topic.

I'm especially excited because my "Black Velvet Rose" geranium seed is germinating today!!! I was so thrilled when I discovered it, that I could barely get the shot...

    How cool is that?! :rooster:

You're right, the A-G is perfect for people who have no access to outdoor gardening...or even people who do. It's really wonderful to be harvesting fresh herbs, fruits, and veggies in the middle of winter! Aero-Gardens also make great conversation pieces because of their charm and appeal. My friends are amazed when they visit, and they wanna know all about how it works.

Here are some "Arctic Fire" Dianthus sprouts...

Of course hot peppers that have ripened to red contain the most heat, however even the little purple ones are relatively hot as well. "Little Blue" is a wonderfully ornamental variety but also a serious hot pepper as well. I mean could it get any better?

"Aurora" is another favorite variety of mine and much like "LIttle Blue", it is extremely ornamental yet it also packs a wallop...

    More soon...

These aerogardens could be great for kids to use too, HollyBerry, or are they too complicated for them?? Well, I guess, if I grew hot peppers I would have to grow them just for their ornamental purposes as neither of us are partial to hot foods, I'm afraid. Our tastes are fairly bland as far as heat goes.

Can fully understand you getting excited with your geranium seed germinating. I am like that whenever I grow from seed. My Brazilian Walking iris seeds were the worst, I had to wait 6 weeks for the first to pop its head up. It was an anxious wait. :O

That's a long time to wait and I know what it's like. I've waited two months for some seeds.

Yes, as a matter of fact they actually sell aero-gardens for children that have little lady bug and bumble bee hoods on them! They have three pods so the child can grow three plants. How cute is that?!

    More shots soon...

That is a great idea for children. It would be a wonderful way to interest them in growing things. :cool3:

Another thing about the Brazilian Walking iris seed was that I did not know if they were viable or not, as it was a seed pod from one of my own plants. When I Googled them there was nothing to be found about their seed. In fact, some sites said BWIs did not have seed & I would have agreed until I found this one & only seed pod. :lol3:

Well there is certainly a lot of baloney circulating around the internet that people are believing as facts, so I am not surprised to hear that.

Pretty cool that more of my pink geranium flowers are blooming tonight in the A-G...

Yup, that's a willow catkin in the bottom right corner!

That is soooooo :coolsign: , HBL. What a pretty colour the geranium is. Love it.

No wonder your dwarf weeping pussy willow is doing so well, it is sneaking some of the UV lighting from the geraniums's A-G. :lol!:

Re the baloney on the web, have even seen some plant nurseries misnaming their plants. Dracaenas are one of the worst to get both mistreated & misnamed. Poor old so-called "Lucky Bamboo" gets a very raw deal. :aargh: Of course, blogs are the absolute font of misinformation, aren't they?? :mad2: Mind you, I am probably :flog: about this. :sheesh: :lol2:

Ok here's what's happening today in my aero-garden:

Alpine strawberry plant is looking red as ever...

Keep in mind this plant is over 6 months old now and I cut it back recently. The center crown is bursting with new growth since I pruned it...

I love how red the plant is...

My double petunias are absolutely thriving!

They're gonna bloom any day now...

I think this branch will be the first to develop a flower bud...

My pink geranium plant is thriving...

This is my baby "Amythest Beautyberry" shrub that I topped about a week ago. Notice the new leaves forming where I made the cut...

    More soon...

They are all doing so very well, HollyBerry. Spotted a couple of flower buds in the third pic of the double petunias, too, in the top branch in that pic. :cool3: You are going to have a mass of flowers & berries from these plants. The aero gardens have wonderful results. :bravo:

I have never grown the double type petunias before and I wasn't sure if that was a bud or not. I am dying to see the colors since they are all from a mix. Can't wait to show you guys when they bloom!!!

The plants are really thriving so I'm expecting lots of flowers! Yippeeeeeeee! :dance2:

I even brought in eagle-eyed Bruiser, HollyBerry & he agrees that they do look like flower buds in the third double petunia pic. Please don't shoot me if I am wrong, though, will you?? :apgn:

Cannot get over just how well everything grows in the aero gardens. They are wonderful. You will most likely get some spectacular results. :bravo:

I thought they were buds and it's the proper time for them to bloom. Some other people think they're the flower buds coming as well. So totally excited about it! Tell Bruiser thank you for confirming what everyone else thinks too. Woo Hoo!

It's gonna be neat too because I have five plants growing from the mix so that's five different colors!!! How pretty will that be? :dance018:

I saw this picture online (not my own) and I nearly died! I want this look so bad...

That is just too fricken gorgeous!!! :apgch:

They do look gorgeous, HollyBerry. :D There were some there that are very similar to ones I had. On the left are ones just like our Passion Burgundy, & the lighter pink ones are similar to the "Passion Pink". The cherry & white were called "Giants Victorious" here as well as the darker pink/red & the pale pink & white. The deep violet blue is beautiful, too.

    :luck: with yours. :cool4:

My mix has similar colors also and all five of my plants are from that mix so I'll likely end up with some very cool colors. I hope they don't all turn out to be white! Can you imagine? Just my luck! :donald:

I want the purple and white ruffled one really bad. Hope I get it.

Not a lot of time tonight but I'll be back. Just had to show you one of my blooming double petunias from my mix. I have five plants total but this is the first to bloom...

    I just LOVE it...

The other four plants have buds and I'll show them soon. They're all from a mix so the colors will be a total surprise. :apgch:
