What a wonderfully interesting plant that is, rc. It has a growth habit, & leaf-shape, similar to my dracaena surculosa punctulata "Sierra Leone" but that plant looks more like a bamboo & has spotted leaves. At the moment I am racking my brain to try & remember if I have seen this plant before. Of course, we may not have it down here in Australia but I feel I have grown something like this many years ago.
Have you seen how the stems form?? Do they shoot up like a spear then grow the leaves when fully grown?? Has it ever flowered??? It does seem to be thriving in the conditions it is in which could give a clue as to what type of plant it is. Is it in direct or indirect light?? Could it be a type of schefflera or umbrella tree, which is indigenous to the Australian tropics?? They do look different when grown in a pot to those which we see in gardens around here. There are a few different schefflera species, too.
