A few photos of Saldanha bay, primarily a fishing town/villiage, on our west coast, but Saldanha is also a depot for exporting iron ore. This little harbour is just across the way from Langebaan where Mykonos is situated. here are some photos of the harbour and its occupants.

We think this was an exploration boat. The harbour was almost deserted being a late-ish in the afternoon so there was no one to ask

not complete without some recreational vessels.

Those are some serious fishing vessels in the first pic, Dawn. They looked rather big. Wonder if they are some of the big fishing boats that catch some of the SA fish that sells here frozen. :?: The smaller fishing boats in the fourth & fifth pics look as though they could have fish, or crab traps. Maybe Bruiser will know. He used to have a prawn trawler.

Yes they are really big ones those in the first photos.

Sea Harvest is the company in Saldanha Bay.

But I think it is Irvin & Johnson where you get your fish from. I think they work from Cape Town Harbour and have their own trawlers. Here is a link to their website if you would like to read what they say about Australia

Gee thank's for the pic's of the boats Dawn ,, as an old sailor /fisherman I love any photos of yacht's, fishing boats, 'I like to see how they are rigged!
The traps on the smaller boats above look like crab trap strings to me, I used to trap for snapper in the off prawn season and my fish traps were much larger, although the conditions (current) might mean they have to have little traps!
You asked Joy about fish in our river ? all sorts Bream ,Flathead ,Luderick, Mullaway just to name a few!

Yes you are probably right, about the traps etc. I don't know too much about deep sea fishing/trawling. Hey! it must have been fantastic being out working on the sea!

Bream! lovely!. I don't recognise any of the others you mentioned. Unfortunately we don't have any rivers very near here, with any fish except Carp. We have been to the trout farms to do some fly fishing up on the Dutoit's Kloof pass.

Forgot to mention that I & J do sell a lot of frozen fish here, Dawn. Even in our region, with all its fishermen's co-ops & its large fishing industry.
