What beautiful gates these are, Dawn. Absolutely outstanding, as are your other images. They are all so wonderful to see & give us a terrific perspective on London. No wonder it was one of the great cities of the world &, probably still is. It is all so beautiful & historical.

Just to back up a little here are the Green Park gates looking from a distance, actually coming down through the park towards the gates from Green Park Tube Station

Buckingham Palace with the Green Park gates just to the right of the picture but out of view.

Looking back at the gates to Green Park

As Buckingham Palace is a working Palace the gates are open on many occasions, as Royalty and staff are back and forward all the time, told to me by the police prescence at the gate at the time.

Detail on an inner gate, with it's beautiful ornate filigree, with the Royal "R" in the centre, which I imagine stands for Rex or Regina. I am sure you can see that it is a zoomed image.

    The Gates at Kensington Palace.
These are the gates that were inundated with flowers from the public,

when Diana the Princess of Wales died so tragically in an automobile accident.

The equally elegant pallisade that continues from the the gates around the Palace grounds.

    taken from another angle

This is an image taken through the gate looking down out of Kensington Gardens.

The gates were open the day I took these photos, there were officials at the gates of course . I wasn't sure what was really happening , I think it was a rare moment of opening them to the public? as normally they have always been locked. I was able to get an image of the statue of William 111 without having to aim through the gates. :-))

These are Queens gate ( into Hyde Park). which is situated along Kensington Road side. I see a V, in the centre detail of these gates. So I assume it is a tribute to Victoria.

    Just another view.

They are not as grand because of the colour. I have also tried to find out any history to these gates but to date have nothing to tell.

Those Kensington Palace gates are glorious, aren't they?? Gold leaf everywhere. The Queens Gate, outside Hyde Park, look as though they are being refurbished, don't they, as they are at odds, colour-wise., with all the other grand gates & fences of London. The paint does look like undercoat. Can't find anything much on the web about them, though. Most info that comes up is of hotels in the vicinity. They are very majestic gates, nonetheless. :D

Yes.. they do look like they are painted with undercoat, but if this is the case it has been a long time in the second coat coming. They have always been that colour. I can only think they were made from something that rusted so they were painted over?? and seeing as they seem not to be a "main gate". I also thought at the time of taking the picture that this spoils what could be other wise a grand gate. I have tried to Google and find out about Queens Gate but have yet, like you, found out nothing.

The only other pics of the Queens Gate, that I have found in Google Images, are of the gate & fence in the same colour as your images. It is a mystery, isn't it??

Try as I might, Dawn, I cannot find the reason for the drabness of the Queens Gate & its fences. I do think Queen Victoria would NOT be amused.

The gates to Greenwich Royal Park.

I always wonder why they put up the signs you see on the gates. I get a bit pedantic about the things I enjoy. Without the signs they would be more enjoyable,
I think. I suppose they have to be put somewhere!

I notice all the Royal Park gates seem to have if not the same , very similar designs on them. I love what looks like a tulip right in the centre of this image.!

Gosh, Dawn, the work that the craftsmen have put into making these gates & fences is fantastic. Their artistry is marvellous & so intricate. :good:

Think I am with you re the signs that are put on them but as you said they have to go somewhere. It is a shame though. :mad2:

The gates that lead into the Isabella Plantation, which can be found in the SW corner of Richmond park. It is a
beautiful ornamental woodland garden of Rhododendron, Camellia and
    Azalia.

Here is a link for anyone interested in the garden itself.

These are very lovely looking gates with a slightly more modern look to them. They are rather artistic. The link you provide is really interesting, Dawn. :D

The gardens would be gorgeous in full flower or even at any time of the year.

Yes Joy a lot more modern after those other images
Here are a few photos to show what is inside the gates. The garden had finished it main flowering period for that year, it was June when I took these and there were already only few flowers to be seen. I believe early spring, when the weather is still cool is the time to visit.

It still looks beautiful & so different to the types of flowers, shrubs & trees that we are familiar with. Guess it is too warm here for those wonderful plants. Some ambitious gardeners try to grow azaleas but the few I have seen, around our town, are stunted little shrubs with few flowers.

The close up of the pale pink flowers is so beautiful. Do you know what they are, Dawn??

I am pretty sure they are Rhododendron, of some kind. beautiful aren't they. They had huge clusters all over the tree.
