Your tomatoes before they ripen...the greener the better.

The above picture the greens that size quarter them. Larger tomatoes you can slice.

Beat one egg and add just a tad of milk in a shallow bowl.

Add your tomato slices or quarters and mix well.

Have flour on a plate and coat the tomatoes with flour well. (I hope I am explaining this right. You want to take each tomato piece and make sure they are coated with the flour.

Have a hot fry pan ready with just enough oil to keep the tomatoes from sticking.

Brown the green tomatoes on both sides and turn heat down to lowest setting.

Sprinkle tomatoes with salt, pepper and just enough sugar (not much) to keep the tomatoes from being too tart.

The fried tomatoes are done when they are soft but not too mushy.

They are delicious and hope you enjoy them.

I would try only one at first so you won't waste tomatoes if you do not like the finished product.

I love them but my kids won't touch them.

I have fried them without the egg either way is fine.

I have been waiting to get hold of some green tomatoes to make these, finally mine gave fruit and I made them a couple of days ago. I really liked them :yum: , and everyone else did too.
I think I was a bit heavy handed with the milk and next time will be more careful, as the egg was reluctant to stick to the slice, but I kept dipping and managed to get it to stick in the end. I *lost* the first batch in the pan as one normally can do with pancakes as I don't think the oil was the right temperature. But the rest came out really well!. Later with the rest that were left over, [( one tomatoe can make quite a few) and I used three tomatoes]I topped them with a spread of herb and garlic smooth cream cheese and ate them cold. They were very very nice. I will definitely make them again. yum ! Thanks Glad!

Did you ever fry any green tomatoes?

I sure am getting hungry for them already but it will be a long time. Tomatoes haven't bloomed yet in my garden.

It has been colder than usual and everything is so slow this year.

Yes I did Glad they were nice, not sure my coating was as good as it was supposed to be ?, but we enjoyed them. I never grew tomatoes this year so we have not repeated the meal yet :)I am sure you will suddenly get that growth spurt, once the heat is there there will be no stopping them . :bye:
