Here is the info provided with the live web cam site.
"Pete's Pond is a waterhole on Mashatu Game Reserve in Botswana, Africa. It is a famous webcam that began on National Geographic's wildcam and is now hosted and operated by WildEarth.
The camera is mounted overlooking the waterhole along with a microphone and floodlights that switch on automatically at night.
The camera is controlled by volunteer 'zoomies' over the Internet, who Tweet 'sightings' @wildearth.
A great variety of wildlife will come to drink at the pond including herds of elephant, eland, impala, lions, warthogs, baboons and many more.
Stick around and watch for a while, you are sure to become a 'pondie'."

Someone must have thought they saw something in the water, at the time you were looking at it.
It is still a great site, nonetheless.
All I know about viewing wild life is they hide in bush and scrub usually during the hot midday hours and use the waterholes at evening and morning times. Except the Ellies as they bath and mud bath to cool down around mid morning and into the hotter parts of the day. Of course there is always the exception as some get thirsty if they are passing through. The wildebeest or any animal are usually skittish at the waterholes because Lions also use the waterholes at the same time so I think they are all very much on edge because of the possibilties that surround them of becoming a meal. Hippo's come out during the day but it is usually not for long as they burn very quickly. Anyhow sure you know all this just thought I would say it anyway
